Meet Dr. Nicole Moberly: Fellowship-Trained in Special Needs Dentistry

"I was raised immersed in the special needs community right here in Las Cruces. From volunteering with the Special Olympics starting at age 14 to completing advanced fellowship training, my passion has always been making sure every individual receives safe, dignified, and comfortable dental care."
- Nicole Moberly, DDS

Dr. Nicole Moberly was born and raised in Las Cruces. She is a general dentist with fellowship training in special needs dentistry. After earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Dentistry, she completed a General Practice Residency at NYU Langone–Brooklyn and a Fellowship in Special Care Dentistry at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, New York.

At the Rose F. Kennedy Center, Dr. Moberly treated individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has now cared for patients with special healthcare needs for more than five years and uses that training every day. Because of her personal connection to the special needs community, she understands the barriers these patients and families often face in getting dental care, and she's committed to reducing them for families across Southern New Mexico.

When treatment is best done under general anesthesia, Dr. Moberly can provide care in the operating room at MountainView Regional Medical Center.

How We Make Dental Visits Comfortable & Stress-Free

Every patient has unique triggers and comfort needs. We adapt our environment and techniques to meet your family where you are.

• Visits at the Patient's Pace: Every new patient starts with a conversation and an exam, taken at their speed. If an exam and cleaning take more than one visit, that's perfectly fine.
• Sensory-Friendly Comforts: We offer noise-canceling headphones, blankets, and fidget toys.
• Respectful Communication: We speak directly to every patient, including those who are non-verbal. Many can understand what's being said even if they can't respond, and we never want anyone to feel left out of their own care.
• Gentle Behavior Support: We use proven techniques like tell-show-do, positive reinforcement, voice control, and gradual desensitization to build comfort and trust over time.
• Wheelchair Accessibility: Our office features wide hallways and roll-in treatment rooms.
• Sedation & Stabilization Options: For patients with severe anxiety or difficulty staying still, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral conscious sedation in our office. When it's needed for safety, we can also use gentle physical stabilization, such as a papoose board. For more complex treatment, care under general anesthesia is available at MountainView Regional Medical Center.

What to Expect: Our Caregiver-Centered Approach

Your Intake Call: Call our office to book your first visit. There's no special form to fill out. During the call, you're welcome to share details about health history, triggers, communication preferences, and goals, and to ask any questions.
A First Visit at Their Pace: The first appointment begins with a conversation with Dr. Moberly and an exam, taken at the patient's speed. This is your chance to go over all of your preferences with her.
A Custom Care Plan: Dr. Moberly creates a step-by-step treatment plan built around the patient's comfort and pacing.
Collaborative Appointments: Parents, guardians, and caregivers are welcome in the treatment room during appointments, as space permits.

Frequently

Asked Questions

Do you treat adult patients with special needs?

Yes. Dr. Moberly treats patients of all ages, from infants to older adults, with developmental, cognitive, or physical conditions. That includes adults moving on from pediatric care.

What sedation options do you offer?

In our office, we offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. For more complex treatment, Dr. Moberly can provide care under general anesthesia in the operating room at MountainView Regional Medical Center.

Do you see non-verbal patients?

Yes. We talk with non-verbal patients just as we do with anyone else, because many understand what's being said even if they can't respond. We want every patient to feel included in their own care.

How do I prepare my child or family member for their first visit?

We recommend talking through the visit using positive language, reading visual social stories together, and telling our team ahead of time about any specific triggers or comfort items (like a favorite blanket or toy). Remember that the first visit happens at the patient's pace, and it's fine if it takes more than one appointment.

Is there a special intake form?

No. Just call our office to book. You can share details and ask questions on the phone, and you'll go over all of your preferences with Dr. Moberly at the first visit.

Do you accept Medicaid or my insurance?

Coverage varies, so please call our office at (575) 524-5812 and our team will help you find out what your plan covers.

"My goodness! I can't say enough good about Warren & Law. From the moment I walked in, Miss Brooklyn greeted me with a smile even though she was on the phone. The Dental Assistant was sweet & took interest in me personally. Dr. Moberly had a real conversation with me then discussed my concerns. Then after Jennine (I am sorry if I misspelled your name) was so polite & helpful! I then received a call for my cleaning to get in the same day! The other important thing for me was CLEANLINESS! Overall a top notch dental office!"
